Beauty and the Beast
Clear the front pages, clear your head,
The Thin White Duke and Ziggy are dead.
All the young dudes down in suffragette city,
Cracked actors, Queen bitches will mourn but not pity.
Let’s dance, shadow man, on Valentines Day,
Time will crawl as we watch those boys swinging away.
At the drive-in Saturday she’ll drive the big car,
But the kooks don’t sit down, ‘cos they see life on Mars.
Major Tom has embarked on his oddest of missions,
When the final wind blows we’ll still have sound and vision.
As the world falls down I will love you til Tuesday,
Little wonder we’ll scream like a baby this blue day.
Day-in, day-out scarey monsters and strangers,
Andy Warhol and pretty things feed on the changes
These golden years bring with the heart’s filthy lesson,
As Bewley bros count their red money with blessings.
Now the nature boy is here today, gone tomorrow,
Janine and uncle Arthur are wedded in sorrow.
The gnome has stopped laughing with a word on a wing,
From station to station diamond dogs howl and sing.
Now a new killer star will look down from above,
As Lazarus longs for his next modern love.
Thursday’s child, teenage wildlife, heroes and sinners,
Compared to the starman are absolute beginners.
